Success Story: Massuda
From Skill-Building to Independent Seamstress
Massuda joined Sew She Can seeking practical sewing skills, creative confidence, and a path toward independence. Through hands-on garment construction training, mentorship, and real-world production experience, she strengthened both her technical abilities and her belief in what was possible for her future.
During her time in the program, Massuda refined her sewing techniques, learned professional standards, and gained experience working on structured projects. More importantly, she developed the confidence to take on work independently and connect with collaborators beyond the classroom.
Today, Massuda is an independent seamstress. One of her recent projects included collaborating with an interior designer to create custom curtains for the Symons Block Hotel in downtown Spokane. The project showcased her craftsmanship, attention to detail, and ability to meet professional design expectations for a commercial space.
For Massuda, this work represents more than a completed project. It marks a meaningful step toward financial independence, professional recognition, and long-term opportunity in her chosen craft.
Her story reflects what Sew She Can strives to create every day. When people are given access to skills, mentorship, and supportive community, they gain the confidence and tools to shape their own futures, thread by thread.
Now, she gives back by collaborating with Sew Se Can as a translator & educator, inspiring others from her community to pursue their dreams.
